A Statement from the OLV Institutions Regarding the Clergy Abuse Crisis

The Catholic Church is in the midst of a challenging time.

In light of the allegations of clergy sexual abuse throughout the world, the nation, and within our own diocese, we, the Our Lady of Victory faithful, are deeply troubled by the harmful acts committed against children and adults.  We understand the outrage and hurt among many in our Church community and feel called to thoughtful prayer and reflection in bringing about healing for the victims and survivors.

In troubling times such as these, we turn to the example of our saintly founder, Father Nelson Baker, for encouragement and enlightenment.  Known as the “Padre of the Poor,” he remained focused on Jesus and the Blessed Mother whenever he, himself, or his institutions, struggled.  Through good times and bad, Father Baker spent his years committed to his charitable works – sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick, and giving hope to society’s most vulnerable.  Now, more than ever, we find ourselves doing the same and embracing the ministries he has entrusted to us.

On behalf of the people and organizations within the Our Lady of Victory community, we pledge to always be a part of the healing process to those suffering from abuse.

Our prayers are with the victims and their families, with the faithful of our diocese, our friends and supporters across the globe.  And as we strive to serve all who come to us, may we always follow Jesus’ example of mercy, compassion, and healing.
